Why Shatranj exists

Chess online solved availability and lost everything else. You can find a game at three in the morning against someone at exactly your strength, and it will feel like nothing. No opponent, no conversation, no reason to remember it an hour later.

Shatranj is an attempt to put the missing part back: video and voice chat beside the board, music you and your opponent hear together, and clubs and tournaments that give games a context. The chess is serious — rated play, Stockfish analysis, real time controls — but the point is the person on the other side.

What we care about

Fair play, because a rating that can be bought or cheated is worth nothing. Privacy, because a camera on the board is a serious thing to ask for and it stays optional. And access, because the whole platform is free — no paywalled analysis, no premium tier that decides who gets a real game.
