Video chess, without a second app

Most people who play chess with a friend online end up running two programs at once: a board in one window and a video call in another. Shatranj puts them in the same place. The board and the video feed share one page, so there is nothing to install, nothing to screen-share, and no second link to send.

Video chess works in the browser on desktop and mobile. Every game includes a built-in chess video call, so you start a game, send one link, and your opponent is playing and talking within a few seconds — no account required for a guest game.

Face to face chess, at any distance

Playing over the board and playing online are usually very different experiences. The first has an opponent in front of you; the second has an anonymous username and a clock. Face to face chess online is an attempt at the first one over the distance of the second.

You see the moment your opponent spots the fork. You hear the sigh before the resignation. Post-game analysis becomes a conversation rather than a silent engine review, which is most of why playing a friend was worth doing in the first place.

What is included
