Online chess is usually solitary: a random opponent, a clock, a result, another random opponent. The Shatranj community exists to break that loop — clubs you belong to, players you recognise, and games that are part of an ongoing rivalry rather than an isolated event.

Clubs, tournaments, and rivalries
Clubs give a group its own space with shared standings and internal events. Tournaments run in Swiss and knockout formats across blitz, rapid, and standard time controls, and every game is rated.
Because video and voice chat are built into the board, club games can be played face to face across any distance — which is most of the reason people organise a chess club in the first place.
